Letter to Prospective Families
Dear Prospective St. Mary School Family,
Let me be the first to welcome you to St. Mary and to thank you for considering our school. I look forward to working with you as you become more acquainted with the St. Mary School family.
At St. Mary we provide a small, family atmosphere where all aspects of your child’s education are considered - the intellectual, the physical, the emotional and the spiritual. We strive every day to live up to our motto to “keep spirit and faith in education.” We consider parents to be valuable partners in the educational process.
Our Catholic identity is very important to us. Students at St. Mary School participate in daily religious instruction, weekly liturgy and prayer, and frequent service projects. We strive to be a community of good stewards in support of our less fortunate neighbors. Traditionally, approximately two thirds of St. Mary students are Catholic, with numerous other faiths represented by the remaining one third of the student body.
St. Mary School is accredited by AdvancEd (formerly the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) with oversight from the Diocesan Catholic Schools Office and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Instructional staff members are fully licensed, and curriculum is routinely revised at the system level to encompass current best practices and research. Curriculum areas include Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Religion, Physical Education, Art, Music, Spanish, Technology, and Media. Curriculum is reinforced by a strong technology program that includes Accelerated and STAR Reading. Students at St. Mary consistently score in the top 10% on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills when compared to schools nationally.
St. Mary students also have access to a number of extra curricular activities, including recreational soccer, middle school basketball and cheering, Math Counts, scouting, and other activities dictated by current student interests. In addition, St. Mary students frequently compete in local academic competitions and receive recognition from the Knights of Columbus, Rotary International, the National Geography Bee, local spelling bees and essay contests, and local talent competitions.
As you make this very important decision for your child, you remain in our prayers. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.
